The cell is such a strange and unusual place, filled with oddly-named parts that interact in unfamiliar ways, that it can be difficult to memorize all of its assorted structures and their functions.
Often times, when new material is hard to understand, one of the best things we can do is make comparisons to more familiar things. An extended comparison is called an analogy. When we first started learning about cells, we made an analogy between the cell and the human body, comparing cell organelles with human organs.
