Energy PyramidsEnergy Pyramids are a graphic representation of the amount of energy available at each Trophic Level in a food chain, as well as the relative population and biomass of each species in the chain.
For example, the pyramid to the right demonstrates that numerous giraffes are required to provide energy for only a single lion. Similarly, an even greater number of trees are necessary to properly feed a herd of giraffes. The number, or population, of organisms decreases as you proceed up the Energy Pyramid. |
